Whelping rooms
We have four whelping rooms as bitches tend to come into season in groups and any breeder with two of more breeding bitches is bound to end up with more than one simultaneous litter on occasion.
Each of the whelping kennels has an outside run where puppies can play in the sandbox or on the grass. The movable panels enable the run to be enlarged onto the surrounding lawn as the puppies grow older.
The main whelping room is fitted with an air conditioner to allow control of ambient temperature. An adjustable infrared heating lamp suspended from the ceiling controls the local temperature in the box. A radio prevents the bitch getting bored and socialises the puppies. Special soft sheep skin-like nonabsorbent whelping blankets than can drain fluids to an underlying bed of newspaper are used. The kennel is also equipped with a basin and first aid cupboards for emergencies.
A removable grid in the doorway not only allows the bitch to escape the puppies when she needs a break, but also keeps the puppies in or outside as needed.
Puppy play-pens
Our puppy play pens are constructed from four movable panels 3m long X 60cm high. The panels consist of vertical bars rather than mesh so that puppies do not learn to climb. The design allow us to allow a litter to be moved to different areas as soon as one location becomes over-used.
Adult Housing
Our adult dogs are housed in large open air enclosures situated under shady trees amongst the hustle and bustle of everyday activities. The enclosures simulate outdoor gardens of home environments and cater specifically for their mental and physical health.
No concrete prisons for our dogs!
Secure Housing
Bitches in season, visiting bitches and dogs being prepared for a show are temporarily kept in this block.
The kennels are large and airy and the dogs have a good view of the surrounding areas so they never feel isolated from the daily activities.
